Question: Can't You Just Ignore A Judicial Committee?

one thing i've never understood is judicial committees.

yes, i understand it's held to see if elders should go through with the disfellowshipping process.

but why give them all the power?

Just after being reinstated this year, I was sent a letter saying that someone in the congregation made allegations that I was involved in spiiritism. After the two hour grilling by a very aggressive elder when I was called to the KH unexpectedly, I did not want to go through that again, so I did not attend. Even though they knew my address you cannot find the cottage unless you are told where it is. Surprise surprise, the window cleaner was a JW and told them where it was!! Needless to say he was given his marching orders after that!! Anyway the two elders turned up here and disfellowshipped me on my own doorstep. They told me I could appeal, but I knew it would be unsuccessful and after all that I was relieved to be free again. I have lost family contact again but even when I got it back for a while I did not enjoy it as its like trying to have a relationship with Stepford robots! There is nothing I am missing out on by not being part of it.

If the lady in question does not get DF, they will be watching her every move and will make life very uncomfortable!! x

Shunning & separation from family

i was raised in jw as a child.

my dad was a jw my mom was not, they are divorced now.

i was never baptized or anything but i stopped going once i had the choice at age 12. now i am 41 and my dad will not associate with me, my wife or my 3 kids.

I left the JWs at 16 and have been shunned most of my life since then, my parents didn't really know my children and I have not had much contact with siblings either. You can find genuine people who will be more caring than your family and will help fill the gap. :-) xxxxxx

How to accept and move on from JW's?

just like the title says, how does ones self start the transition out of the jw's belief system, since i will never be allowed to go to a kingdom hall and believe a lot of what they teach.. i guess more importantly how have you guys here moved on that have had some exposure to the jw's?.

any advice is more than welcomed and i thank those that have thus far replied to me!!

Go out and make new friends, there are people out there who are caring and genuine. Have fun, go clubbing, celebrate Christmas etc. and don't feel guilty about it. Not all of us leave the JWs and engage in every act of immorality as the elders accuse us of. We all have our boundaries and in our hearts know right and wrong. Just enjoy being free. :-) xxx

During my time in the JWs there was a friend I had known since I was a small child. He was an elder's son and around my age. He would often instigate the game of "tag" after the meetings. Children were instructed not to run around the KH but this boy would creep up behind me and push me saying "tag", then quickly move away. I could not resist getting him back and we would chase one another around the KH. It was mostly my sister and I that were rebuked for it as she would also join in.

When we reached our 20th year I was out of the truth by then. I heard that this young man suffered from depression and he had told the elders and his JW girlfriend that he had thoughts of suicide. He received no help as I don't think they believed him. Shortly after that he drove to a woodland and fixed a hose from his exhaust into his car and committed suicide at 21 years of age. :-(

He was the only child of the elder and his wife. I remember they taught that suicides would not receive a resurrection, I am not sure if this has changed. I find it upsetting that his parents can still go along to the KH believing this and how they cope. xxx

I want to be a JW but they seem to hate me? Help!

just going to give a little background about myself and then bring anyone who is reading this up to speed with where i am today:.

growing up in a family that was not aware of jehovah's witnesses at all, as none of my family members have had a run-in with them other than my parents, my entire life has been a mess ever since we met them.

the witnesses first came to my door when i was 12 and my dad started bringing me to meetings and we even lived with a witness family for a month when we were both homeless due to my parent's divorce.

I attempted to return to JWs (mainly because I was grieving for my Dad) but they found every excuse to get rid of me. I now know that because I was out of it for 26 years, I was no longer a submissive woman. I was an attractive single woman that was a distraction and I knew my own mind. I was told by an elderly sister there that the single women were psychologically "dragged" into the back room on a regular basis to be interrogated about what they were up to, whether any men were sniffing around etc.

You are better off out of it, that cult will make you emotional problems much much worse. xxx

My gay friend went back to JWs?

one of my best friends was disfellowshipped several years ago, and word quickly got around that it was because he's gay.

we lost touch after that because of the disfellowshipping, but since i'm out now, i just found him online and got back in touch with him.

it was a great conversation, but he said he returned to jehovah.

If a gay person returns to the JWs they are expected to remain celibate. I should imagine they are also watched intently if they speak to anyone in the congregation who are the same sex. How can anyone feel comfortable living like that? xxx

2016 death of my father who told me don't come back if your a Witness...still hurts my soul! Warning you all!!

i last spoke to my father in march 1990. we finished a "quick build" kingdom hall and i had a 17 year old spiritual awakening and decided to drop high school to pioneer full time.

(yes i was a dumb ass) he was not happy since my parents were divorced he was catholic.

we had a arguement and he said stay in school get a degree...and dont come back if your a witness!!

I saw my Dad very rarely over 26 years. I was able to spend some time with him about a month before he passed away. When I went to the funeral one of the JWs said to me "Your Dad talked about you all the time" which made me realize that he missed me as much as I missed him, but it was still no comfort. I felt guilty and returned to the meetings a month after the funeral and even got reinstated. The elders in my local congregation came down so hard on me and had no sympathy at all, I just couldn't carry on with it. I did not attend the judicial hearing as I couldn't take any more of their aggressive behaviour and they disfellowhipped me. My Mum now wants nothing more to do with me, but she is bitter and twisted about being old as she though she would never end up that way. She takes it out on me so I am better off without her. :-( x

Pyramid Schemes

several years ago, i was introduced to a "wonderful" company called fortune hi tech marketing by a brother and his wife.

they had been introduced by a former sheriff who claims he had researched the company and found no leins or judgments, and that former sheriff had been brought in by a pastor.

you can read what happened with fhtm on wikipedia if you so desire.. this whole new idea of multilevel marketing had my brain reeling, though, and soon enough, i actually signed up with none other than prepaid legal.

I was once involved with the selling company Amway. Their selling methods, conventions, the way they dressed were identical to JWs. I found it quite spooky! :-) x

Help with fading, please...

i just left about six months ago and i'm going through the emotional whirlwind that comes with it.

i would really appreciate some advice on how to keep this fade from turning into my being disfellowshipped.

i'm another born in, third generation.

I think the elders are now wise to people getting reinstated to have family contact and then fading after a while. They don't let you fade anymore, you will be harassed until they find some dirt on you to disfellowhip you. I have experienced this and also know of it happening to others :-( x
